Mission:

Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties is a faith-based, nonprofit organization whose goal is to partner with local low-income families to help them build or renovate and then buy their own homes within our two-county service area. Habitat homes are simple, decent, safe, and affordable. Habitat homes are affordable for our partner families because:

- our families and other unpaid volunteers provide much of the construction labor

- we sell our homes to qualified low-income families at no-profit prices

- we provide no-interest home loans

- our home loans offer affordable monthly payments.

Statement:

Current Projects

During October 2010, we purchased a building lot located at 3457 Jefferson Avenue in Ogden. We plan to build a safe, decent, and affordable home on this lot for a local low-income family who currently lives in substandard housing. When construction has been completed, the family will purchase the home from Habitat at a no-profit price, and with a no-interest loan that offers affordable monthly payments.

Because this lot was the site of a devastating house fire, we feel as if we will also be making a contribution to the revitalization of this neighborhood by replacing the former structure with a nice, new home. Therefore, our goals in taking on the Jefferson Avenue Project were primarily two-fold: 1) to provide the opportunity for affordable homeownership to one additional, local low income family, who would not have the resources to achieve homeownership without Habitat; and 2) to make a small, but significant, contribution to the revitalization of another Ogden City neighborhood.

We have designed a modest two-story, 1216 square foot, 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath home that we believe to be ideal for the narrow lot (Click HERE to see the house plans). We will provide photo documentation of the progress on this home (Click HERE to see photos). We plan to complete the construction of this home by May 2011 (Click HERE to see the building schedule).

To accomplish our project goals, our board has approved a total project budget of $88,863. Of that total, $18,863 was used to purchase the building lot, and $70,000 was estimated for site preparation, permit and utility costs, and construction costs. We welcome all donations of new building materials, both professional and non-professional labor, and funds to help us finish this project!
